"Awkward" Star Kickstarting Original TV Pilot

Beau Mirchoff, best known as Matty McKibben on MTV’s hit series “Awkward.”, has been hard at work raising funds for his new pilot comedy titled “Camp Sunshine”. The new show will follow a day-in-the-life of Los Angeles summer day camp workers trying to come to terms with themselves as they realize that not only is their summer ruined, but they have no idea why they are working at the day camp in the first place.

In order to raise funds for the project, Mirchoff has turned to social media, reaching out to his friends, family, and fans to help raise the $28,000 needed to create the pilot episode. Along with two friends, Kanin Guntzelman and Will Masterson, they spearheaded a campaign through fundraising website Kickstarter to not only achieve their goal of raising the funds, but to provide a new interactive way for fans to get involved.

So, what is in it for the pledgers? In return for helping fund the project, those who donate money will get a chance to receive a personal video message from the actor or even a live Skype session! However, the word on the street is Mirchoff’s up for anything… okay, almost anything: "I am open to anything. Seriously. Just put it out there in the Twitterverse. I will do my best to accommodate anything they want," the actor stated, adding: “Obviously, I will have to draw the line at some point, but I’m open to creative thoughts!”

Mirchoff's willingness to do whatever it takes to get his pilot up and running shows how passionately he feels about the project. Despite being a celebrity, fundraising is not as easy as one might think. It takes a lot of work and dedication. So far, that hard work has paid off, raising nearly $19,000 ths far, but with the February 8th deadline fast approaching, they only have a few more days to raise the remaining funds needed!
