This past week, I had the pleasure of discovering budding artist Brittany Smooch. This emerging star was recently signed to Lady T records, and she has already teamed up with musicians Lil’ Twist and Mickey Avalon to create a rather unusual sound. Fresh from New York City, Smooch’s work reminds me a bit of Ke$ha-meets-Deadmau5.
If I had to choose a favorite Smooch single, I would have to go with “Kamikaze”, featuring Lil’ Twist, which has a great drop in the middle of the song. I am not sure if I should categorize the song as being pop, hip-hop, or trance, as it combines elements from all three genres. I actually liked that Smooch did this, as “Kamikaze” brings a unique sound to the table in the world of pop music. I have never been the biggest fan of trance, but Smooch is able to effortlessly combine elements from other genres that help to even out the house elements of her music.

In addition to being the lead artist for Lady T records, Smooch is also touring and performing all over the country. She is hoping that her unique blend of cross-genres will appeal to a diverse spectrum of listeners, and I have to say that I think that it's already working. In addition to her own original songs, Smooch has covered a few pop songs as well. I actually found that I enjoyed her version of Justin Bieber’s “If I Was Your Boyfriend” (or, in Smooch’s case, “If I Was Your Girlfriend”) moreso than the original version of the song. Smooch’s voice adds a sultry element to the track that Bieber’s does not have, and simply seems to have a stronger flow.
I have a feeling that this is simply the beginning for Smooch; I am excited to see what else she has in store for us.
Check out more of her music on SoundCloud, and keep up with all things Brittany at her Official Website!
