The seventh series of the U.K.'s "X Factor" was probably one of the most fruitful in terms of successful alumni to move on and become stars all in their own right. Besides a slate consisting of Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd, and One Direction (ever heard of them?), season 7 of the hugely popular U.K. reality singing competition has also spawned the hit-making career of singer-songwriter Aiden Grimshaw, who, with an amazingly sultry soulful voice and talent, is someone more people should know about.
After auditioning with an amazing cover of Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” back in 2010, Grimshaw made it all the way to Week 6 on "The X-Factor" and soon after was signed to RCA Records. Fast forward a year or two to April of 2012, and Grimshaw released his first solo single, “Is This Love”, off his debut studio album Misty Eye.
Another notable single from the Misty Eye record includes the very popular and nostalgic “Curtain Call”:
His deep, old-school voice and charm are something not easy to come by in this day and age of autotune and heavy electronic music, and to be honest, it is really quite refreshing.
His newest effort is an EP that will be released sometime in September, with the lead single “The Way We Are”, a modern, almost dance-like take on Aiden’s signature dreamy and smooth vocal ability.
Although he is popular primarily in the U.K. as of now, we American listeners definitely wouldn’t mind having some more Aiden Grimshaw in our lives.
