Today’s music scene is filled to the brim with some pretty lively, energetic stuff, and with the current rise in the EDM movement, there is, quite literally, a lot of noise that populates our eardrums. What’s popular nowadays is usually the thumping house music beats and the dirty drops of popular stuff like Dubstep.
But The Weeknd, one of Canada’s rising R&B stars, takes it slow with his music, and it is, simply, music to our ears.
Born Abel Tesfaye in Scarborough, Ontario, The Weeknd is good friends with fellow Canadian superstar and frequent collaborator, Drake, and has already amassed a fairly big following, including music fans from all over the world.
Known for his smooth vocals and very laidback, chill R&B sound, some of The Weeknd’s biggest hits include “Crew Love” (a dual effort on Drake’s hit album from last year, Take Care), “Remember You” (an amazingly smooth crooner with rapper Wiz Khalifa), and some of his more underground work like “What You Need”, “Wicked Games”, and another Drake-collab, the wildly popular fan-favorite “The Zone”.
His most recent release, Trilogy, is a compilation of tracks collected from his previous three mixtapes and was just released in earlier this month, so get your hands on what is sure to be the biggest thing in the R&B world!
