Although pop and hip-hop usually go well together (usually in the form of singer/rapper duets and collaborations), it isn’t every day you see an artist or act that seamlessly melds the two together.
The rowdy and raucous U.K. duo, Rizzle Kicks, does just that with their wistfully cool and swagger-filled combination of both hip-hop and pop. A fairly popular group across the Pond, they have already made a name for themselves thanks to collaborations with the likes of fellow Brits Olly Murs and Ed Sheeran for the respective songs “Heart Skips a Beat” and the remix of “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You”.
Having met while they were in school in their native Brighton and formed in 2008, Rizzle Kicks consists of Jordan "Rizzle" Stephens and Harley "Sylvester" Alexander-Sule. They first gained popularity, as so many do nowadays, through homemade YouTube videos, and after gaining the interest of some record labels, were courted by Universal Music Group and released their debut album Stereo Typical in October 2011.
Some of their mellow and cool pop-rap hits include “Miss Cigarette”, “Dreamers”, and “Round Up”.
Although it has been more than a year since their debut release, Rizzle Kicks are already supposedly working on their sophomore effort, to be released sometime in the summer of 2013.
Be on the lookout for more new Rizzle Kicks music, and check out their official YouTube channel for some more of their biggest hits!
