Are You Duff Enough?

If ever a singer deserved an epic movie of her life, it's Duffy.

The UK songstress was actually put into a safe house ten years ago after police uncovered a plot by her stepfather's ex-wife to pay a hitman to kill him. Drama!

Now that's a life story. Glitter, it ain't.

You may not know this sultry blonde babe as a household name, but you will. All signs point to superstardom for this latest wave of British imports.

I was on my way back from getting my hair done with a friend when we first heard Mercy; the song that has gone on to become a smash hit here in the States. We both flipped at the funky throwback track, its clever mix of sounds and Duffy's unique vocals.

I must have this song!!! we clamored in unison, and it was therefore my mission to find out what the heck we were hearing. It didn't take long before the song was everywhere. It quickly soared up the charts and has been featured in television shows like ER, Smallville and Grey's Anatomy; as well as the soundtrack for Sex and the City: The Movie.

The song is about sexual liberty and not doing something somebody else wants you to do, she explains.

Amazingly, this is a girl who got the boot from her school choir - because her voice was too big; I didn't fit in, she says.

In the movie if her life, this would be my choice for the first scene. Talk about success being the ultimate revenge!

On the review tip: Mercy is a departure off her debut, Rockferry. The CD itself is much more laid back and less poppy - like a hot night at the coolest jazz lounge you've ever been to. More than worth the price of an album download on iTunes.

Word.
