They tried to make her go to rehab but she said no, no, no. Maybe she should have said yes, yes, yes! Our favorite bad girl and candid rocker Amy Winehouse took the world by storm this year with her hit single, "Rehab." Unfortunately, most of Amy's tour dates, including a scheduled performance at this years VMAs, were all put off. Ironically, the song that put Miss Winehouse on the charts is the very reason she had to put her career, on hold for the moment. Amy Winehouse was born in North London and spent most of her adolescence locking herself in her room doing what she loved most, singing. Although Amy had a very unique sound and voice not to be reckoned with, it was all masked by the bad girl image she has had since she was a child. Rather than focusing on her unique talent, she was skipping school, getting arrested and doing drugs. Hey, at least she had something to sing about! So how did Amy go from bad girl to pop sensation? Well, it all started with her father's love for jazz music. Amy began to study her father's music collection. She also had a passion for a more current urban sound and began to study hip-hop and R&B. Her favorite artists include Mos Def and Ray Charles, two very different artists with a very strong message. Amy set herself out to be the protg of many celebrated artists and as a result she is becoming one herself. Fast-forward a few years and one platinum debut album entitled Frank, Amy was climbing the charts and creeping into our thoughts with a blink of any eye. "Frank" put Amy on the map, and there was no taking her off. Two years later, her anthem-like single, "Rehab" entered the charts at no. 7 and made Amy Winehouse a household name. She sold out her 2007 tour and was the most downloaded ring tone for 6 weeks straight! Safe to say that Ray Charles and Mos Def would be proud! Despite Amy's current trials and tribulations, we know she will come out shining with a new outlook and anthem for us all to sing to as the clubs are closing. After all, what's a hit song without some truth to it? Young Hollywood loves the fact that the Amy's got soul, and we can't wait to see what she comes up with next! We wish her the best of luck in her current nominations for the MTV VMA's, held in the city where most people at the poker tables will certainly be singing "Rehab" as they saunter wearily to their hotel rooms. She's up for "Best New Artist, "Female Artist of the Year," and "Video of the Year."
