Finally, after much anticipation, FOX has officially announced the judging panel for "American Idol" Season 12. Joining Mariah Carey will be Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson.
"I am thrilled about this year's judges' panel!" says FOX President of Alternative Entertainment Mike Darnell. "Nicki's an unbelievably captivating international phenomenon who has made an indelible mark on rap and pop. And Keith is another great addition to 'Idol' -- he's one of the biggest stars in country music, and I know that our fans and contestants will fall in love with him.
"With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith, and our incomparable host Ryan [Seacrest], we've put together one of the most exciting judging panels around."
After the departure of musical legends Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, plenty of names were thrown around over the summer months. For a while, it was thought that Jackson would take a different, mentor-type role on the show, or possibly leave Idol altogether after a 11 long seasons. Enrique Iglesias was one of the names dropped to take Jackson's place at the judges table, amongst others like Adam Lambert and Nick Jonas.

Just like in Season 9, the panel is back to a “crowded” four. Mariah Carey was an obvious choice, as she has not only proven herself over the years as a musical diva, but she has also worked with Randy Jackson in the past. Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, has had a lot of criticism thrown her way since the announcement, so it will be interesting to see how things plays out. Auditions in New York City are already underway.
What do YOU think of the new "American Idol" judging panel?
