This Frenzy Is Mighty Fine It's a Thursday night at the Roxy and floating through the air is A Fine Frenzy, the music of 22-year-old Alison Sudol; a red-haired instrumental and lyrical poet who sits at the piano in a white, vintage-looking dress with a blue floral pattern, cut to the knees, with demure, lace trimmed sleeves. With only a two-piece band behind her, she kick-starts the show with an energetic rendition of Come On Come Out,' a strong example of her eclectic mix of styles and hypnotic piano arrangements. By the time she bursts into the delightful melody of You Picked Me,' we are simply putty in her hands. How are you doing?ù She asks. The crowd erupts, WHOOOOOOOOO!!!ùGood,ù she says with a demure smile, me too.ù As a teen, Alison taught herself to play piano. Eventually she began to writing songs, some of them featured on her debut album, One Cell in the Sea,' including what she tells the crowd was her first, penned at age 19 -- the haunting Almost Lover.' To get a sense of her sound and influences, simply reflect on her encore songs. Both covers, she chooses Death Cab for Cutie I Will Follow You Into the Dark' and the Beatles Across the Universe.' You'll be hooked on her, pretty much immediately. The album is amazing. Links are listed below for more details. Special thanks to my buddy MK (creator of the popular pop culture blog, Popbytes) -- who not only got me on the list but also bought me drinks and took photos! It doesn't get any finer than that.
