Tomorrow, millions of Americans will join together in remembrance and pay tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks, and a group of celebrities are encouraging us all to do our part to observe this landmark anniversary.
Some of Hollywood’s finest are taking part in a campaign called “I Will (Pay Tribute),” which features relatives of victims and survivors of the 9/11 attacks, along with celebrities and many Americans to encourage people everywhere to partake in good deeds and voluntary service in honor of those lost in the attacks in observance of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance.
More than 30 actors, singers, and sports figures are supporting the campaign, including Lady Gaga, Samuel L. Jackson, Mariska Hargitay, Hilary Duff, Jordin Sparks, Pauly D, New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, Cleveland Cavalier Baron Davis, Julianne Hough, and Drake Bell.
Some of these celebrities reveal how they will remember this tragedy that struck our nation ten years ago. Samuel L. Jackson says he will perform an act of kindness and “will remember by teaching someone who is illiterate to read.” Pauly D plans on paying tribute to the 9/11 attacks by pledging, "I will call all my family members on that day." In Jordin Sparks’s campaign video for “I Will,” she reveals what good deed she will perform for the ten-year anniversary:
The “I Will (Pay Tribute)” public service announcement will appear on many TV channels this weekend, where you can catch your favorite celebrities paying tribute to our nation.
In the Big Apple, where the 9/11 tragedy hit hardest, Broadway talents like Matthew Broderick, Harvey Fierstein, Bebe Neuwirth, and Brooke Shields commemorated the tenth anniversary of September 11 in Duffy Square yesterday afternoon with a tribute performance, including the classic song "New York, New York."
Even sporting events will take time to join together in remembrance, as ESPN reports that the NFL will pay respect to the anniversary with the Jets season opener game against the Dallas Cowboys. The crowd will receive flags, and there will be pregame tributes and 9/11 ribbons. Mary J. Blige will open the game by singing the national anthem and Robert De Niro will narrate a halftime presentation honoring family members of the victims of 9/11.
