Zosia Mamet: 'I don't date'

Written by . Published: May 01 2013

Zosia Mamet has given up dating because she is convinced the traditional courtship ritual is old-fashioned, uncomfortable and awkward.

The Girls actress, who is rumoured to be involved with her former Off-Broadway play co-star Evan Jonigkeit, has offered up love life advice in a column for the latest issue of British magazine Glamour.

Mamet admits she struggles to plan dates because she doesn't drink alcohol, and she urges other women to follow her lead by moving away from the well-worn model of romantic outings with a prospective lover.

She writes, "I don't date. I can't remember the last time I went on a date... The reason I don't date is because the first few times I did it, I hated it. I despise the first date - and all the uncomfortableness that goes with it... I'm a little awkward meeting new people. Other issues: I don't drink."

Mamet also warns fellow women of other dating perils, including the use of the Internet to research a prospective partner, and splitting the bill.

She concludes, "The sweetest thing someone can do is listen to you. To be thoughtful. To accept your neuroses. That's love, isn't that what we all want?"
