Zayn Malik has lost touch with One Direction
Zayn Malik is unsure if he will have "friends for life" in One Direction as the remaining members have not got in touch with him in recent months.
The singer quit the boyband in March (15) because he wanted to live a "normal" life, and he has since revealed he was never comfortable performing pop music and had been thinking of leaving One Direction since their inception in 2010.
Since the split, he was embroiled in Twitter.com spats with former
bandmate Louis Tomlinson, and has since grown distant from the
others, with Liam Payne being the only one in contact.
Zayn has now revealed he has not spoken to any of his former
bandmates, including Niall Horan and Harry Styles, recently, and he
is no longer sure if they will be "four friends for life", a phrase
he used in his split statement.
"The truth of it is... you can think one thing about a situation
and the total opposite can happen," he tells Billboard magazine. "I
had every intention of remaining friends with everybody, but I
guess certain phone numbers have changed and I haven't received
calls from a lot of people. I've reached out to a few of them and
not got a reply. Certain people have pride issues, but it's stuff
you overcome in time."
He insists there is no rivalry between them and fans do not need to
be divided, saying, "There are no sides to pick... We're not going
head-to-head."
Zayn also admits he has not listened to Made in the A.M., the first
One Direction album without him, adding, "I'll be honest. I thought
the first single was quite cool. I heard the second single and...
yeah, I didn't buy the album."
He has recently been hitting headlines over his new relationship
with model Gigi Hadid, but when the interview was conducted in
November (15), he insisted they are "just good friends."
When asked what he looks for in an ideal woman, he replies,"I need
a challenge. Also, I like girls that are a bit chunky in certain
areas - the nice areas. I like a fuller woman. I enjoy an
intellectual conversation as well, where someone can construct a
sentence beyond what hair and make-up they're wearing, and talk
about something political or about the world. I like an
opinion."
Zayn's debut solo album is set to be released in the spring
(16).
