Will Ferrell set to make baseball history on Thursday

Written by . Published: March 12 2015

Funnyman Will Ferrell is hoping to score a home run on Thursday (12Mar15) when he plays pre-season baseball for 10 professional teams in a day.

The comedian will take on nine different positions while making appearances at five Arizona spring training match-ups.

Ferrell will travel to each game via helicopter and his comedy baseball efforts will be captured on camera for an upcoming TV special.

During his wild day on the mound, at home plate and in the field, the actor will also honor baseball great Bert Campaneris, who played nine positions in a game five decades ago.

New baseball commissioner Rob Manfred says, "Spring Training affords an appropriate setting where our game can serve as the backdrop for an event that will benefit organizations that fight cancer. Will is a big fan of our game, and many of us in baseball - among our clubs, players and our millions of fans - are big fans of his. Major League Baseball is happy to take part in what will surely be a fun and memorable day for a great cause."

Ferrell is hoping to raise awareness about organizations dedicated to fighting cancer, during his big day. He will take the field for the Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, among others.
