Troubled AC/DC star's friend speaks out: 'He's a good fella'

The man who Ac/Dc star Phil Rudd allegedly attempted to hire as a hitman has broken his silence about the drama, which has led to the drummer's arrest.

The unnamed associate police have linked to the rocker tells the Bay of Plenty Times that Rudd befriended him on fishing trips near his home in New Zealand.

Insisting he's not the guy who Rudd tried to hire to kill two people, the man admits his famous friend had issues.

He says, "The joys of being a rock star, always in the spotlight, you've got to feel sorry for him - just the expectations everyone has of him. He's a good fella. He's got a big heart."

Rudd was arrested and charged with attempting to hire a hitman to kill two men on Thursday (06Nov14). He appeared in Tauranga District Court to face charges of attempting to procure a murder, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis and threatening to kill. He's set to reappear in court later this month (Nov14) and faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence if found guilty.
