Tina Fey keen to get Mean Girls: The Musical underway in 2013

Lindsay Lohan's hit movie Mean Girls is expected to go into production as a stage musical later this year (13), if actress Tina Fey gets her way.

The 30 Rock creator and star wrote the screenplay for the popular 2004 teen comedy, which was partly based on Rosalind Wiseman's non-fiction work Queen Bees and Wannabes, and now she is eager to see the film make its transition to the stage.

Fey has been working on a musical adaptation with her composer husband Jeff Richmond for several months and she wants to get the ball rolling on its production sooner rather than later - as soon as she can convince Paramount film bosses to sign on the dotted line.

Addressing the status of the musical project, Fey tells E! News, "We want to, I'd love to. I'm trying to develop it with my husband, who does all the music for 30 Rock, and I think Paramount's on board."
