THE STROKES' FINANCIAL DISPUTES

New York rockers The Strokes nearly fell out over disagreements in pay because frontman Julian Casablancas didn't feel the band's workload was evenly distributed.

The Last Nite hitmakers shot to fame with their 2001 debut album Is This It but Casablancas admits there were disputes over their paychecks, which were split equally between each bandmember and their manager, Ryan Gentles.

He explains, "We split the money six ways but we didn’t split the work."

Casablancas insists the fivesome is now "different than before" - because they're finally all contributing to the recording process as they prepare to release their fourth album.

He adds, "It's night and day now. Everyone is working as a group, 'Let's do it! Go team!' Which is amazing. Which is what I wanted since day one. But that's only happening now. Literally now...

"If I make it super clear why I was unhappy in the past, it might just rehash things that should have been left alone. I think we're fulfilling the promise of what we said we were: actually being a unit that really works on everything."
