The percussionist is alleged to have stopped breathing and was taken to the nearby St. Joseph's Hospital, where he underwent treatment and tests for the mystery ailment.

He has since returned to the U.K. to continue his recovery and as a result, the group has postponed all remaining tour dates.

A spokesperson for The Charlatans says, "The Charlatans are very upset at not being able to continue the tour but hope to reschedule the dates as soon as possible."

It is The Charlatans' second North American tour to be affected by Brookes' health problems - they had to scrap a string of gigs last year (09) after he was advised to undergo surgery on his shoulder.
