Taylor Swift visits young cancer sufferer in Nebraska
Country star Taylor Swift took time out of her busy schedule on Saturday (09Mar13) to pay a surprise visit to a cancer-stricken fan in Nebraska.
The Love Story hitmaker is preparing to kick off her Red tour in Omaha on Wednesday (13Mar13), but she took advantage of a break from rehearsals and headed to the city's Children's Hospital & Medical Center to meet Lauren Hacker, whose parents had reached out to Swift to tell her all about the 10-year-old's plight.
Hacker's mom and dad had also sent the star video footage of their
little girl singing a unique rendition of her single You Belong
With Me, altering the lyrics to reference her battle with acute
myelogenous leukemia.
Detailing the meeting on the family's blog, Hacker's father writes,
"Taylor Swift stopped by Lauren's room at the hospital around 1 pm
in the afternoon. She spent about an hour chatting with Lauren...
(who) played a song on the electronic piano key board (sic) that
she got for her birthday... Taylor was very impressed."
Swift then "shared stories from her childhood" and "told us all
about the special stage designs of her new show", while she also
showered her young fan with gifts.
Hacker's dad continues, "Just before she had to leave, Taylor got
out a bag of goodies for Lauren and provided autographs on
notebooks, photographs and guitar picks... It was a great afternoon
for everyone and I'm sure Lauren will remember it for many years to
come."
It's not the first time Swift has made time for her sick fans - in
January (13) she enjoyed a long lunch with a 17-year-old cancer
sufferer in Michigan.
