Taylor Swift named Tennessean of the Year

Editors at The Tennessean newspaper have named Taylor Swift their Tennessean of the Year, even though the country star was born and raised in Pennsylvania.

The Love Story singer arrived in Nashville to pursue her dreams of becoming a hitmaker when she was 14, but that hasn't stopped bosses at The Tennessean announcing she's among the best things about their state in 2013.

Announcing the news, editors reveal it's Swift's philanthropy in Nashville that landed her the new title.

Her financial gifts to the city in recent months have included a $4 million contribution to the Country Music Hall of Fame and a $100,000 gift to the Nashville Symphony.

In the piece about their new heroine, The Tennessean editors have quoted Swift, who recently said of her adopted hometown, "I would not be the same kind of person without Nashville. It has shaped me into who I am. I think everybody feels that. We don't have an ocean or mountains. People come here because of the feeling they get. It pulls you in and turns you into who you're going to be."
