Taylor Swift hands over song proceeds to New York City school officials
Taylor Swift has made good on her pledge to donate the proceeds of her hit song Welcome To New York to Big Apple schools by presenting city officials with a cheque for $50,000.
The Shake It Off star released the tune, about her experiences of moving to Manhattan last year (14), in October (14) and announced plans to aid the area's school system by handing over much-needed cash.
On Tuesday (24Feb15), the city's Department of Education
spokeswoman Devora Kaye revealed Swift had kept her promise and
made the big donation, stating, "We're deeply appreciative of this
kind gesture to donate her proceeds of the single Welcome to New
York to benefit New York City public schools."
Swift was named New York's new tourism spokesperson last autumn
(14) and is fronting a global campaign to encourage more people to
visit the Big Apple.
