Stars stunned by Mars landing

will.i.am, William Shatner, Rob Lowe and Seth Green watched in awe as NASA experts landed a new robot rover on Mars in the early hours of Monday (06Aug12).


The vehicle, known as Curiosity, successfully touched down in a crater near the planet's equator and stars from around the world took to Twitter.com to share their excitement.


Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am was at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to witness the feat, and he declared, "We did it!!! We landed on Mars... we did humans (sic)... humans landed Curiosity on Mars..."


Elizabeth Banks added, "Yeah, NASA! You guys rule", Green gushed, "We have landed on Mars for a 4th time! Congratulations Mars Curiosity NASA JPL & Citizens Of Earth" and Lowe offered, "USA!!!!!!!! Curiosity lives!!!!! Let us be under no illusions: this country is still very capable of great feats that should inspire the world."


Star Trek legend Shatner told his followers, "Olympics or Mars Curiosity? I can't decide which is more exciting tonight", actress Olivia Munn tweeted, "'Breaking news from Mars!' Coolest breaking news I've heard in a while... It's official: Welcome to the future!!" and reality star Khloe Kardashian ‏wrote, "10 years of planning.... Curiosity landed on Mars safely!!! Congrats NASA!!"


Neil Diamond ‏joked, "Congratulations NASA on the Curiosity landing!! Can I play the first concert on Mars? Say hi to the Martians for me" and Hugh Hefner ‏added, "We've landed on Mars. Celebration is in order!"


Curiosity will now embark on a mission of at least two years to look for evidence that Mars may have once supported life.
