Spider-Man villain spin-offs in the works

Producers behind the Spider-Man film franchise are planning a number of spin-off movies featuring the superhero's arch-enemies.

One of the films will focus on Venom, played by Topher Grace in 2007's Spider-Man 3, while another will be an ensemble piece based around The Sinister Six, a group of Spider-Man baddies.

Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrad says, "The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio's greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world."

Andrew Garfield stepped into Tobey Maguire's shoes to play Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter-ego in the franchise's reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, last year (12). The second installment of the new series will hit cinemas next May (14).
