Singer Jamelia banned from driving
British R&B star Jamelia has been banned from driving and fined $800 after she was caught behind the wheel of her car without insurance.
The Superstar singer, 32, was pulled over by police in August (13) near her native Birmingham, England and she was booked for the offense after failing to renew her policy. She told officers she last purchased car insurance online, and thought it would be automatically renewed annually.
She appeared in court in Redditch on Monday (13Jan14) and pleaded
guilty to one count of driving a motor vehicle without third party
insurance, and to an additional charge of driving with tyres in
poor condition.
Jamelia made an emotional plea for magistrates not to take away her
license as she had no one else available to take her two daughters
to school each day, but the single mom was handed a 45-day driving
ban and ordered to pay a fine and cover court costs.
