Silence is golden for Katy Perry and John Mayer
Katy Perry and John Mayer have learned to enjoy each other's company in complete silence after beginning their courtship while the rocker was suffering serious vocal problems.
The couple began dating in the summer of 2012 as the Daughters singer prepared to undergo surgery to remove a granuloma from his vocal cords that August (12).
His recovery required him to not talk for four months and he had to
resort to using an Apple iPad tablet to express his thoughts and
feelings with friends and family - and that included his new
girlfriend, Perry.
During a joint appearance with Mayer on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on
Friday (20Dec13), the Roar singer explained, "I understood that he
couldn't talk, and the only way he could communicate was through an
iPad."
Perry stood by her man as he worked on making his music comeback,
and after a brief split earlier this year (13), they are now
stronger than ever.
However, the pop star admits they rarely make much noise when they
are spending time together at home because their jobs require both
musicians to preserve their voices.
She said, "Some days I have to go on complete vocal rest, like no
anything, no whispering. Whispering is actually really bad. There's
just a lot of silence in our house most of the time."
When comedienne DeGeneres suggests the couple start playing drawing
game Pictionary to communicate, Perry quipped, "We should just
learn sign language."
