Shania Twain still fears alleged stalker will contact her again

Shania Twain still fears her alleged stalker will contact her in the future even though he agreed to plead guilty to harassment charges in court in Ontario, Canada on Thursday (29Sep11).

Former doctor Giovanni Palumbo interrupted Shania Twain's live video testimony to declare, "I'm going to plead guilty... I've been offended too much", and he was true to his word on Friday (30Oct11).

But Shania Twain told the court that she still has "fear and anxiety of being contacted in the future by Mr. Palumbo", adding, "I do want it to stop."

The accused allegedly sent Shania Twain a series of letters, made unwanted visits to her family cottage in Ontario and even attended her grandmother's funeral. He was arrested at a Canadian awards show earlier this year (11).

Palumbo's lawyer Gary Barnes told the court that his client felt the singer was interested in him.

Speaking via video from an undisclosed location in Europe, Shania Twain said, "I'm torn emotionally because I have compassion for anybody who's reaching out in need... I feel very sad... and awkward having to go through these very personal matters with Mr. Palumbo because it's such an invasion of his privacy."

Palumbo is facing charges for failure to comply with a court order and criminal harassment.
