Shailene Woodley slams Twilight

Actress Shailene Woodley has slammed hit film series Twilight, accusing producers of sending a damaging message about relationships to its legions of young fans.

The Descendants star worries the vampire franchise gives young viewers the impression that damaging relationships are desirable by glorifying main character Bella's single-minded devotion to her undead boyfriend Edward.

She is adamant the movies portray a "toxic relationship" and she fears the main storyline makes teenage girls think it is fine to be totally dependent on a lover.

Woodley tells Teen Vogue magazine, "Twilight, I'm sorry, is about a very unhealthy, toxic relationship. She (Bella) falls in love with this guy and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she's going to kill herself! What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve."
