Shailene Woodley sells off possessions and gives home to grandmother

Hollywood hippie Shailene Woodley has given away all her possessions so she can travel light and keep everything she owns in a carry-on suitcase.

The Divergent star was so busy making movies in 2013 she was only home in Los Angeles for two weeks. She didn't miss anything she wasn't traveling with, so she made the drastic decision to give everything she doesn't need away.

The free-spirited actress tells chat show host Jimmy Kimmel, "Everything that I own and use are in a carry-on suitcase... I figure if I only own a few things and it gets lost, then I would have nothing.

"I was only home for 15 days last year and I got home and I was like, 'I don't wanna be alone, I wanna be with my friends and my family...', so I got rid of everything just so that I would have one suitcase that would be easy to transport between houses, and just kind of couch surfed for a few months.

"It's so refreshing and it takes so much stress away when you're like, 'I only have one pair of jeans to wash'.

"I have a computer and a few articles of clothing - I've got a hoodie..., a few basic tank tops, T-shirts, jeans, leggings."

Woodley has also handed over the keys to her Los Angeles home to her grandmother - because she's hardly ever there, and prefers to sleep on friends' sofas when she's not working.
