Selma leads African-American Film Critics Association awards

Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic Selma leads this year's African-American Film Critics Association awards with Best Film, Director and Lead Actor wins on Monday (08Dec14).


The drama about the civil rights leader has beaten out The Imitation Game and Theory of Everything for the Best Film prize, while director Ava DuVernay and actor David Oyelowo are also winners - and John Legend and Common pick up the Best Song honor for Glory from the Selma soundtrack.


Other winners include Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Best Actress for Belle), Octavia Spencer (Supporting Actress for Black or White) and Tyler Perry (Gone Girl) and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), who tied for the AAFCA Best Supporting Actor award.


The honors will officially be handed out in Hollywood on 4 February (15).
