Selena Gomez treasures a new Chanel bag she received from her boyfriend The Weeknd because the designer item carries a special meaning only the couple is aware of.
The Come and Get It hitmaker, who has been dating The Weeknd since the start of the year (17), reveals her man puts extra thought into the gifts he buys her and her new handbag was no different.
"My boyfriend just got me a beautiful Chanel bag, and (I love it)," Selena tells Business of Fashion magazine, explaining how life experiences mean more to her than material goods. "It wasn't because it was a Chanel bag, it's because of where it came from and what it meant. So I wear it so proudly, and I feel cute when I have it on. I feel like, 'I love this!' it makes me so happy... And that to me is an experience."
Selena put her love for The Weeknd on display on Friday (08Sep17) as the couple hit the red carpet for the Harper's Bazaar Icons party in New York, where he was due to perform in celebration of his role as the publication's latest cover star.
The musicians shared a kiss for the cameras at the bash, where The Weeknd donned a black tuxedo with a velvet jacket, featuring a diamante-studded collar, as Selena kept her look sleek and simple in a long-sleeved baby pink Valentino mini dress with mock turtleneck.
She also impressed on Saturday (09Sep17), when it was her turn as the cover girl to fete her new shoot for Business of Fashion, making her entrance in a nude-colored sheer Rodarte gown with floral appliques.
In her interview for the publication, Selena credits her stylist Kate Young with helping to educate her about fashion and transform her red carpet wardrobe as she sought to leave her days as a child star behind her and be recognized for her more mature work as a singer and actress.
"Once I started understanding the craftsmanship and how dedicated people are to making it, and how delicate everything felt, my eyes were really opened to it (the fashion world)," she says. "There's something that happens when I put on a beautiful piece of clothing. And it's not just through characters or music videos. I feel like it completely affects how I'm stepping into an environment. I'm very dramatic, I love being expressive with stuff. So if I have on a good outfit and my hair looks poppin', I feel great! I have a whole new aura about myself."
The 25-year-old's style transformation quickly caught the eye of top fashion designers, and has since helped Selena land collaborations with luxury brands like Coach, which she became the face of last year (16).
