Selena Gomez's mom Mandy Teefey has honored the daughter she miscarried in an emotional Instagram post.

The 41-year-old suffered a miscarriage on 17 December 2011 and on Monday (18Dec17), she thanked her fans for sending her supportive messages on the anniversary of the tragic event.

Besides an Instagram slideshow showing her holding a baby and others of her husband Brian and daughter Selena holding her bump, Mandy, who named her late daughter Scarlett, revealed how they remembered her on the special day.

"Thank you to all the fans who honored our Scarlett yesterday," she wrote. "Dec 17th will never be the same, but we decide to celebrate her by writing her letters on red balloons and releasing them."

Mandy, who is also mother to four-year-old Gracie, revealed that the anniversary took place on the same day she wrapped the second season of Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, which she executive produces with Selena.

"Now the 17th is intertwined with the wrap of S2. So, she (Scarlett) was there in spirit as always. A moms love for their children is pretty fierce," she continued. "In order of my girls, Selena, Scarlett and Gracie. Family is what matters, blood or not, #family13 made me smile and feel loved when so needed and they didn’t know.

"Then, I came home to Brian and Gracie to send our love to Scarlett. Fans, I want you to know you are family because I have a huge family and you are the only ones who remember! XO forever."

She published the post shortly before it was reported that she was taken to hospital by police officers for a welfare check at a family member's request last week. She was voluntarily transported from a Los Angeles area hotel to a nearby medical facility for treatment, according to TMZ.com.

Selena is Mandy's daughter with first husband Ricardo Gomez, who she split from in 1997. She married Brian Teefey in 2006.
