Scarlett Johansson has been named Forbes magazine's top-grossing movie star of 2016.

The actress has edged out her fellow Avengers castmates Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr. thanks to a $1.2 billion take at the global box office.

Scarlett was in the year's biggest hit, Captain America: Civil War, and one of the critical disasters of 2016, Hail! Caesar.

Earlier this year (16), Johansson became the highest-grossing actress of all time, according to Box Office Mojo.

She was the only actress in the top 10 list, which is dominated by blockbuster stars like Harrison Ford, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, and Downey Jr.

At 32, Johansson was also the youngest star in Box Office Mojo's top 10.

Only one other actress made the top 20 - Cameron Diaz at 19, while Helena Bonham Carter (26), Cate Blanchett (29), Julia Roberts (30), Elizabeth Banks (31), Emma Watson (32), and Anne Hathaway (50) are the only other women in the top 50.

Johansson looks set to retain her title as a box office sensation in 2017 with much-anticipated roles in films like Rock That Body and Ghost in the Shell.
