Scarlett Johansson and Lupita Nyong'o discover their family roots on TV

Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong'o, and Amy Schumer are among the celebrities who have delved deep into their ancestries for the new season of genealogy show Finding Your Roots.

Singer Carly Simon, acting legend Christopher Walken, director Ava DuVernay, hip-hop star Questlove, actress Tea Leoni, and comedians Aziz Ansari and Larry David have also been tapped to research their family histories for the series' fourth season, which debuts on Tuesday night (03Oct17).

In the season premiere, Larry learns he is actually related to former presidential wannabe Bernie Sanders, the Democratic politician he famously impersonated on comedy show Saturday Night Live in 2015 and 2016.

There was also a great discovery for Leoni, who was able to reunite her mother, Emily Patterson, with her biological parents after she was put up for adoption as a child. Researchers found out the Deep Impact star's maternal grandmother, 96, was still alive and arranged for a private meeting between the three women, as well as Leoni's 18-year-old daughter Madelaine from her marriage to ex-husband David Duchovny.

Finding Your Roots' host, Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., has previously helped the likes of Ben Affleck, LL Cool J, and Eva Longoria find out about their ancestries.
