Sam Smith has been appointed a global ambassador for charity War Child.

The Stay With Me singer announced his new role on Twitter on Monday morning (04Dec17) and revealed that he had seen the work of the nonprofit organization, which helps children in areas experiencing conflict and the aftermath of it, on trips to Iraq and Jordan.

"To my wonderful fans, I am so excited to announce that I have become a global ambassador for the incredible humanitarian group @WarChildUK," he tweeted. "Over the past year I have been on two trips with War Child to Iraq & to Jordan to witness first hand what this incredible charity are doing."

Sam, who said he was honored to be part of the charity's team, then shared a video showing his trip to a War Child camp in Amman, Jordan. He can be seen meeting the children and taking part activities and sitting in on lessons.

"If what happened to these kids happened to me as a kid I know for a fact I would be angry," he said in the video. "Seeing family members blown up, seeing people killed on the street. When I went into the War Camp there is honestly something really positive going on in those camps.

"It's really incredible, the team are unbelievable. I just saw so much love in the room and friendship and looking out for each other. It was just amazing to me. The things that I have seen ignite a fire in me. Help. Please, please, please help."

He concluded by asking his fans to donate to the organization's winter appeal.

Sam joins the likes of actress Carey Mulligan, who became an ambassador in 2014. She was inspired to support War Child after her brother Owain was introduced to their work when he was posted in Afghanistan with the Army.
