Sam Smith heading for Australia to avoid New Year bust-ups

British singer Sam Smith is travelling to Australia as soon as Christmas is over to avoid arguing with his family on New Year's Eve (31Dec14).

The Stay With Me hitmaker fights with his family every new year so he has decided to travel to the other side of the globe to avoid the inevitable confrontations.

He tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "I go to Australia on Boxing Day (26Dec14) for 10 days, just (for) a holiday... I have argued with my family every New Year's Eve for 10 years. So I'm going to travel to the other side of the world and strap myself to a tree so I can't argue with anyone.

"It's not huge arguments, but when all my family drink a bit and you've been together for 10 days over Christmas, at the end you all start arguing. It's just like any family."
