Sam Smith donates violin to charity drive

Sam Smith has donated a violin played in one of his music videos to a charity drive collecting instruments for young musicians.

The Stay With Me star has thrown his support behind the instrument amnesty organized by the bosses of celebrated London jazz club Ronnie Scott's.

They are asking for unwanted instruments to be handed in at the venue on Saturday (11Jul15) and they will then be passed on to young musicians in need, and Smith was among the first to make a donation by giving a white violin featured in the promo for his song Lay Me Down.

An image of the instrument has been posted on the Ronnie Scott's Twitter.com page along with the message, "Sam Smith has kindly donated his white violin from the music video for Lay Me Down. What will you donate this Saturday?... Music Instrument Amnesty."
