Sam Smith cancels Milan gig due to laryngitis

Grammy Award winner Sam Smith has been forced to cancel a sold out show in Milan, Italy hours before the concert because he's too sick to sing.

The Stay With Me hitmaker was slated to perform at Milan's Alcatraz Club venue on Monday night (09Mar15), but he took to Twitter.com earlier in the day to share the disappointing news with his fans.

He wrote, "I have Laryngitis, I'm so upset. I'm sorry to any fans in Milan tonight and to all who have traveled from abroad. I have laryngitis. I promise I will make it up to you.

"Milan I'm back in June and I will sing the hardest I've ever sung. That's a promise."

Smith is currently on tour in Europe and has another sold out gig scheduled for Zurich, Switzerland on Tuesday (10Mar15) - that concert is currently set to go on as scheduled.

He returns to his native U.K. next week (begs16Mar15) for a string of sold out shows throughout England and Scotland.
