Ryan Seacrest 'requests executive producer role on American Idol'

Ryan Seacrest is reportedly keen to both executive produce and host the rebooted American Idol.

The TV and radio personality previously fronted the singing competition series when it aired on Fox up until last year (16), and TMZ recently claimed he's in negotiations to reprise his role when it moves to ABC.

However, the outlet now reports his deal has hit a hurdle and while money isn't said to be a problem, with Ryan reportedly set to earn between $10-15 million (£8-12 milion) as host, it's thought the star wants a bigger role on the show.

According to sources at FremantleMedia and Core Media, who produce the program, Ryan is apparently keen to serve as an executive producer on top of presenting duties.

But with Fremantle allegedly hesitant to give him the title, the stand-off between Ryan and the company is said to have been going on for over a week.

The news comes after TMZ reported that American Idol bosses were keen to hire crooner Lionel Richie as a judge, who would sit alongside popstar Katy Perry if he was to join the panel.

Katy, 32, will reportedly pocket $25 million for her new role as a judge on the show.
