Russian official thanks Prince William for rescue
British royal Prince William has been praised by the Russian ambassador to the U.K. for his "selfless effort" in a rescue mission near Wales.
The Duke of Cambridge, who works as a helicopter rescue pilot for the Royal Air Force, was part of a team deployed to assist shipwrecked Russian sailors in the Irish Sea in the early hours of Sunday (27Nov11).
The crew rescued two of the stranded men during a storm, and
Russian official Alexander Yakovenko has thanked Prince William for
his help in the drama.
He says, "We know that you took an active part in the rescue and
the two seamen were saved thanks to your selfless effort under the
bad weather conditions. Let me express to you and your colleagues
my deepest gratitude for saving the lives of the Russian
citizens."
Five men from the vessel were still missing as WENN went to
press.
