Russell Brand gave up dabbling with guns after the Connecticut school shooting last year (12).
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star began learning how to use firearms after moving to Los Angeles and he spent hours practising his aim at a shooting range.
Brand wanted to own a gun to protect his home and loved ones, but gave up his plan after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut last December (12) when 20 children and six adults were killed by a gunman.
He tells newsman Piers Morgan, "I went to a gun range and I learned a little bit about shooting and all that kind of stuff. And in my mind, it's like I want to be able to protect my home and protect the people I love... But after the Sandy Hook tragedy... I thought how can I legitimately hold the opinions that I do and then hypocritically purchase a firearm?
"So I have not (bought a gun). My feeling is that, you know, the more guns that are available, the more likely for them being used incorrectly here."
Brand also reveals his friends were worried by his plan to buy a gun, adding, "I remember like when I first got here thinking, 'Oh, my God, I'm allowed a gun. That's really cool' and (I set) about justifying it in innumerable ways...
"And people that knew me said, 'You should not get a gun, you don't have that kind of personality. You're not a person who should have deadly force at your disposal'."
