Romeo Santos honored with Madame Tussauds waxwork

Latin pop star Romeo Santos has been immortalized in wax, two years after fans launched a campaign to have the singer's likeness added to the Madame Tussauds collection.

Superfan Jennifer Nieves kickstarted the Change.org petition in 2015, appealing to officials at the famed museum to recognize the achievements of the Heroe Favorito hitmaker.

The campaign worked, and on Wednesday (19Jul17), Romeo came face-to-face with his life-sized statue in his native New York, and took to Instagram to share his gratitude.

"A complete honor, thank you Madame Tussauds, thank you, Jennifer Nieves, and to all the Romeistas (fans) that participated in the petition," he captioned an image of himself standing beside his wax figure.

The wax museum visit took place two days before Romeo releases his new album. Golden, the follow-up to 2014's Formula, Vol. 2, will hit retailers on Friday (21Jul17), the singer's 36th birthday.

Romeo wasn't the only celebrity to have his likeness unveiled at Madame Tussauds New York on Wednesday. A statue of Beyonce was also launched on the same day, although fans were not impressed with what appeared to be a white-washed version of the superstar. Museum bosses have since blamed poor lighting for sparking the skin color outrage.
