Robin Thicke defends use of private text messages in music video

Pop star Robin Thicke has defended his decision to publish a private text message exchange with his wife Paula Patton in a music video, insisting he is keen to create art from his heartache.

The Blurred Lines hitmaker has been publicly declaring his love for Patton since the actress broke off their nine-year marriage earlier this year (14). He has named his latest album Paula and the record is full of sentimental songs about their relationship.

The crooner is now under fire for featuring the former couple's personal text messages in the video for his new single Get Her Back, but Thicke is adamant he is simply including his real life pain in his work.

When asked about the promo clip in an interview on TV show Good Morning America, Thicke replies, "I actually have no idea what I'm doing, I'm actually flying by the seat of my pants on this one. I just wanted to make something artistic out of a very difficult period."

The revelation comes after Thicke admitted he has not seen his estranged wife for four months and she has only heard brief snippets of the record which is dedicated to her.

He told radio station Hot 97 on Tuesday (01Jul14), "I don't think she wants to hear it (the record) right now. I can't speak for her, but I think space is an important part of any healing process."
