Robert Pattinson ventures into fashion design

Written by . Published: March 08 2016

Actor Robert Pattinson has embarked on a side career as a fashion designer.

The British Twilight star has been very selective with movie projects in recent years and in a new interview with Numero magazine, the 29-year-old reveals his slow-paced acting career is partly due to the fact his professional interests have broadened.

"I've started making clothes," he tells the publication. "For the last two years, I've been visiting producers and craftsmen. There's already quite a few pieces. I love doing it."

Before becoming a famous actor, he was a professional model, so being dressed in the latest styles has always been important to him and his exposure to couture clothing inspires the pieces he designs on his own.

"My style is influenced by the cities I go to, sourcing fabrics and local skills," he explains. "In Los Angeles it's really easy to work with denim and do workwear inspired clothes. In England I look more towards wool and knitwear.

"What I do is pretty multifaceted, clothes for men and for women, things that I make with friends... But I'm not going into too much detail, I don't want to jinx anything..."

Pattinson is making several strides in the rag trade, as he was recently revealed as the face of high-end fashion house Dior Homme's autumn 2016 campaign.

But ahead of his 30th birthday in May (16), the star admits he's starting to lose confidence about his looks while preparing for modeling work.

"Frankly I'm terrified!" he laughs about the ageing process. "It's been like a week that I've suddenly realized it's gonna happen, and today for the first time, I gave myself a close shave before the photoshoot. I did fittings yesterday, the model in the presentation image looked about 14 years old. And when I looked in the mirror, I thought, 'But why does my a** look like that?'"
