Robert Pattinson has refused to hire a publicist because he doesn't want to lose control of his life.

The Twilight actor fears he will be sucked into the Hollywood machine if he allows an agent to control his representation in the press and handle all his affairs.

And Pattinson insists he couldn't stand taking orders from a publicist - because he is too independent.

He says, "I have very specific ideas about how I want to do my work and how I want to be perceived. I don't listen to anyone else - that's why I don't have a publicist or anything. I can't stan d it if someone is trying to tell me to do something."
