The Iron Mar star and late actor Lee were honored for helping raise the profile of the state alongside late Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Schultz, late singer Buck Owens and British artist/photographer David Hockney.

The honorees in attendance were presented with the Spirit of California medal by Governor Jerry Brown at the California Museum in Sacramento, and their accomplishments were made permanent record in the California State Archives.

Memorabilia "highlighting the lives and legacies of inductees" also went on display at the museum on Thursday (29Oct15).

Downey, Jr. shared a picture of himself accepting the award on Instagram.com and added in a caption: "Had the honor of being one of a number inducted into the CA Hall of Fame yesterday by Gov Brown. Thrilled to be in any group that includes Bruce Lee and Peanuts creator Charles M Shulz (sic)."

Previous inductees include Barbra Streisand, James Cameron and George Lucas.
