Rihanna, Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace have been named as the hosts of the 2018 Met Gala.

The fashionable trio will join Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour in hosting the event, bosses at the fashion publication announced on Wednesday (08Nov17).

In addition, the theme for next year's star-studded bash has also been revealed as Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, with attendees encouraged to riff off religion when choosing their glamorous outfits.

The soiree, which raises funds for New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, will be held on 7 May (18).

While Donatella and Rihanna are Met Gala regulars, with the Umbrella singer regularly stealing the headlines with her bold style choices at the event, Amal is a relative rookie, having only attended once before.

The human rights lawyer, who is married to actor George Clooney, stunned on her 2015 debut in a custom red Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano but has not graced the red carpet since.

Amal, 39, gave birth to twins, Ella and Alexander in June and returned to the red carpet in September for an appearance alongside her husband at the Venice Film Festival.

Rihanna has also performed twice at the event and this year she made the avant-garde Comme des Garcons theme her own by appearing in a stunning petal-themed gown from the Japanese fashion house.

Donatella is the Met Gala veteran of the trio, as next year's (18) bash will mark her seventeenth appearance.
