Rachel Bilson lands medical TV series

Rachel Bilson is heading back to TV as a doctor in a new drama series.

The former The O.c. star returned to the small screen last year (10) for a guest part in hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, but she has now signed up for a more permanent role in upcoming show Hart of Dixie, about a New Yorker practising medicine in a small Southern town.

It is Rachel Bilson's first big TV project since The O.C. came to an end in 2007.

The show will premiere on The CW network later this year (11).
