Pregnant R&B star Alicia Keys took to the streets of New York City on Tuesday (14Oct14) to lead a protest aimed at raising awareness about the plight of a group of Nigerian schoolgirls who were kidnapped by Islamic extremists in April (14).

Earlier this year (14), the No One hitmaker was among a slew of celebrities who demanded the return of the 276 youngsters snatched from a Nigerian boarding school by members of militant group Boko Haram.

The girls have still yet to be located and on the six month anniversary of their abduction, Keys joined forces with 30 other campaigners to keep the story in the headlines.

The activists marched holding signs reading, "We Are Here" and "Safe Schools Now!" and chanted phrases like, "Bring back our girls" and "When do we want them? Now! Now! Alive!".

Speaking during the rally, Keys - who was joined by her producer husband Swizz Beatz - revealed she wanted to hit the streets because, as a mother to their son Egypt - who turned four on Tuesday, she really sympathises with the parents of the missing schoolgirls.

She said, "Today is my son's birthday and it is also making me stand in solidarity with all the mothers of the Chibok girls who have been abducted for six months and are still missing. And it is just outrageous that that's going on."
