Plummer shopping trip left McGregor out of pocket

Ewan Mcgregor was left out of pocket on the set of new film Beginners after he took his movie dad Christopher Plummer shopping.

Director Mike Mills thought it would be a good bonding experience to send the two Brits to Barneys department store in Los Angeles before filming began.

The moviemaker gave McGregor $200 and told him to buy the Sound of Music star a scarf.

The Trainspotting star recalls, "Christopher was obsessed with getting a pair of black skinny jeans, which I had to pay for since he had no money on him, and one scarf, because that's what I'd been told to get."
