Pink received 'death threats' over Chris Brown joke
Pink fears the internet has created "monsters" after she received a barrage of death threats for making a joke about Chris Brown's performance at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards.
The singer took to her Twitter.com page while watching the prizegiving in May (12) to accuse the Kiss Kiss hitmaker of miming, telling her followers, "One day if I lipsync (sic), I hope I do it as well as him..."
She has now revealed she was subsequently inundated with nasty
messages from anonymous Twitter users and it has shaken her faith
in social networking.
Pink is quoted by News.com.au as saying, "The internet has created
monsters. People that wouldn't have the b**ls to say anything in
person but they get a keyboard under their fingers and, well,
there's that saying 'Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the
majority'. There are so many haters in the world, so many miserable
people...
"It was a joke. It wasn't even meant like 'I hate Chris Brown'.
Twitter brings out the best and worst people - myself included...
With the Chris Brown thing I got death threats for days. My
favourite was 'I will snatch you within an inch of your life'. I
don't know how that works exactly but whatever you want..."
The singer also reveals she was subjected to more unpleasant
messages after she was announced as the new face of cosmetics
company CoverGirl.
She adds, "After the announcement someone tweeted to me 'Too bad
they can't Photoshop the b**ch off your face'... I was like 'Ding
ding ding! We have a winner, someone send that person a prize'.
They were probably all proud of themselves when they were writing
it. But that's our society, that's where we're at right now."
