Pink & Janelle Monae saluted at Billboard Women of the Year luncheon
Pink and Janelle Monae were honored for their musical achievements at Billboard's Women In Music luncheon in New York on Tuesday (10Dec13).
Pink picked up the Woman of the Year trophy, while Monae was named the 2013 Rising Star.
Accepting her latest accolade Trouble singer Pink admitted she was
shocked when she learned she had been selected as the publication's
top woman.
She said, "These are names that popped into my head, and not just
music, but Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, or Miley Cyrus, if
you're high as s**t and you have a thing for tongues.
"You don't think, 'Oh yeah, Woman of the Year? Pink, for sure.' I
don't, anyway, but I'm not going to argue with you."
Fun. star Nate Ruess, who joined Pink on the hit single Just Give
Me a Reason, was on hand to present his pop pal with her trophy and
said, "To know Pink is to have been hung up on the phone from her
in a heated debate. I didn't want to sing on that song, I just
wanted to write it with you. And you twisted my arm and I've never
been happier for doing anything. And it is such a testament to what
an unbelievable songwriter you are. I spend all my time hoping that
in our career we can emulate what you've done, which is just be
yourself."
Tegan & Sara took the stage to perform a tribute to the Woman of
the Year, while rockers Chvrches saluted Monae.
Christina Perri also performed her new single, Human, to honor her
label Atlantic's chairman and COO Julie Greenwald, who claimed the
afternoon's Woman In Music prize.
